Site development is a new type of project for R.K. Porter, commissioned by Starbank Developments R.K Porter converted a small pie shaped piece of land at the corner of March and Station Road in Kanata Ontario into a thriving development, which posed a few challenges.
Site Development
The site had not been developed before and R.K Porter soon found out why during the early stages of construction. Being so close to the train tracks there were safety concerns, the history of the area being developed during the tech boom, a lot of debris was discovered during the installation of the deep services on the site. Permanent power was to be taken from the high tension lines on the other side of the train tracks, this posed a particular challenge both in logistic and in planning.
Thomas Cavanagh Construction Limited played a large role in the development of the site, being site development specialist and having 57 years of experience, they were a perfect choice to help tackle this site.
Project Completion
Some of the other challenges that this site had to offer were a 15’-0” tall by 100’-0” long crash wall, deep service connections along March Road, bringing hydro from the other side of the train tracks and having to complete site work such as curbs and landscaping with two other constructors on site.
After encountering a few delays and challenges during the duration of the project R.K Porter was able to deliver the site completed and ready for use on time which kept the landlord from incurring any penalties and kept their tenants happy.
This project is another perfect example of how R.K Porter General Contracting is able to change with the needs of its clients and with the construction industry itself.
